    Baikaryu Eisanka 6-7pm– Japanese Plum Blossom Style Hymns with bells. Today we will be reviewing and singing ‘Sanbo Gowasan – English: Hymns of the Three Treasures’ .. as well as continuing to learn ‘Magokoro Ni Ikiru – English: Living with a True Heart’ in person only  – Contact Zen’etsu @ zenjoyclay@gmail.com for more information
    Baika Vows we chant before beginning of practice:

    1. We will live according to proper teachings through baikaryu eisanka.
    2. We will live in harmony with others through baikaryu eisanka.

    Shinren Mark will discuss Eihei Dogen’s teaching that every moment is a full expression of all existence, containing past, present, and future simultaneously. This perspective may offer valuable insights into the felt experience of our zazen meditation. Shinren, a longtime member of All Beings Zen Sangha, shares meditation practices with the underserved in DC. online only.

    Tonight we will have a short service followed by one period of Zazen, an interval of Kinhin (5 minutes of slow walking in between) and another period of Zazen. We will conclude by chanting the refuges in Pali.

    Group photos after our full day of zazen, kinhin (indoor and outdoor), tea-discussion, and oryoki … in which, we decided the theme for our silly closing photo to be ‘pickled plum’ … being that our Tenzo Bruno made the most delicious traditional japanese 3-bowl meal, with pickled plum as a condiment. Valley Sounds, Mountain Colors, Sour-Sublime Tastes.

    Tuesday, October 14: Tuesday Tea at 2pm “Direct Experiencing and Gestalt Awareness Practice” – led by Glen Bradley (they/Glen). Online only Use this link to join. If asked for a password use 613535

    Glen, who is a Gestalt psychotherapist (Licensed Professional Counselor) in Washington DC, will present on an awareness process from Gestalt psychotherapy called Gestalt Awareness Practice. It’s a secular spiritual practice inspired by the Zen philosophy of “direct experiencing” through somatic embodied expression without (or with minimal) verbal language. The process is a path toward accessing emotions and energetic content through somatic means and embodied expression.
